MagicBrief alternatives after the July 2026 shutdown

MagicBrief closed on July 31, 2026. Here is where each part of it went: creative analytics, ad inspiration and swipe files, and briefs, plus how to rebuild lost Inspire boards.

SwipeTrove Research Notes · Product workflow guide

MagicBrief combined creative analytics, an ad inspiration library, and briefs in one tool. Since it shut down, those jobs are split across different products. This guide maps each one to a replacement so you can rebuild the part of the workflow you actually used. Details were checked against public vendor pages on October 26, 2026.

What happened to MagicBrief

Canva acquired MagicBrief in June 2025. Its team built Canva Grow, Canva’s ad creation and performance product, and MagicBrief closed on July 31, 2026. According to MagicBrief’s FAQ, billing stopped at the announcement, Insights reports could be exported as CSV, and Inspire collections had no bulk export. Data cannot be recovered after the shutdown.

Your campaign data was never stored only in MagicBrief: spend and performance remain in your ad accounts. What many users lost were their saved inspiration boards and the notes on them.

Creative analytics: Canva Grow

If you mainly used MagicBrief to see which of your own creatives performed, Canva Grow is the direct successor. Canva describes it as a new product rather than a port of MagicBrief. It covers creating ads, launching them, and tracking their performance inside Canva, with support for Meta and TikTok among other platforms. Check Canva’s site for current plans and pricing; MagicBrief customers were offered a Canva Business promotion with a deadline, so confirm with Canva whether it still applies to you.

Ad inspiration and swipe files

For saving and organizing other brands’ ads, you need a swipe file tool rather than an analytics tool:

  • Foreplay combines a swipe file with ad discovery and briefs, from $59/month (or $49/month billed annually). A strong choice for teams.
  • Swipekit is a lower-cost shared swipe file with brand tracking, from $26/month with 5 seats.
  • SwipeTrove is a private Meta-ad research workspace for creative strategists and performance marketers. Save ads from the Meta Ad Library with the Chrome extension or web app, add a note on why each one matters, and organize collections. Free includes 25 saved references at a time and 3 collections, with no card required. It has no discovery database or analytics.

For a fuller comparison, read Foreplay alternatives for Meta ad research.

Briefs and creative handoffs

Foreplay includes Briefs on every plan. In SwipeTrove, a collection’s Playbook turns selected references into a recommendation, the evidence behind it, and the next test to run; Free includes private Playbook drafts. If your briefs were mostly scripts and shot lists, a shared doc built from your saved references also works.

Rebuild your Inspire boards

If your Inspire boards are gone, rebuild only the references you still need rather than everything you once saved:

  1. List the briefs or campaigns you are working on now, and the kinds of ads that informed them.
  2. Find those ads again in the Meta Ad Library. Our free Ad Library search link builder creates reusable searches by keyword, exact phrase, or advertiser.
  3. Save each reference with its link and a one-sentence note on why it matters. Ads that have stopped running may only appear under inactive ads, or may be gone.
  4. Group references into a few collections with a clear purpose, such as “UGC openings” or “Offer-first statics”.
